We’ve been in the book of Mark, and this week we are focused on simplicity.
In Mark 7, Jesus says, “if you want to be concerned about things, look into your hearts for the real cause of impurity.” We often focus on what we are putting into our lives rather than what we are pouring out.
The discipline of simplicity allows us to look into our hearts and helps us to learn how to put the kingdom of God first. Simplicity is freedom! It allows us to focus on our core selves to embrace the kingdom. To be filled up and made whole from the inside out.
Have you engaged with simplicity lately? How? ~

Our vintage building has seen many faces come and go over the past decade. Over the years we have found ways to make our space more inviting, warm and authentic to help welcome each face, familiar and new. Recently, one of our own creative members — Rachel Beachy aka
@theletterboss, painted a mural in the ladies’ restroom as an additional stamp of creativity for our church home. The mural is painted with purple, blue and pink hues and contains a frame with words written #anchorcreates. As we’ve watched our city grow with murals big and small, we wanted a way for our community to feel inspired even in the most mundane of spaces — the bathroom. We hope it’s a way for those who enter to feel inspired, maybe even snap a photo in front of the frame as they fix their hair and touch up make up. If you do get to snap a photo in front of our new mural, don’t forget to use our hashtag above ✨🌸 ~

Over the past few months, you may have noticed we have been highlighting volunteers and asking them why they serve in our community! At The Anchor, our hearts revolve around serving God and others, authentic connection and the joy that brings it all together. This week, we are so thankful for Sean Shaw, one of kid’s ministry volunteers. Our kid’s ministry has grown substantially over the last year. We just can’t express enough gratitude for the volunteers who spend each Sunday with our growing and learning kiddos. See what Sean has to say about what serving means to him by swiping left. ~

Being new to the Anchor, Amber jumped in full force to offer our community her time and love. She currently helps with hospitality and is helping to grow our youth ministry. Thank you for all you do Amber! We’re so happy you’re a part of the community ✨ ~

"Just be." They are two simple words, but they can be very difficult to live by. In weeks that are full of chaos, work and stress, do we ever slow down to just be — present with the Lord, with others, with ourselves? Be encouraged this week to just be. Grab a cup of coffee, go for a walk, pick out a devotional or passage from scripture, and give yourself time to rest and reflect.
Don’t be afraid to ask, "How is this practice challenging for me? What can I share with others in the community about how I make space to exist in this way?" 📖☕️ ~

Volunteer Highlights are back in action after wrapping up all of our summer fun at the church. We had such a busy and productive summer, we couldn’t have done it all without the work of our amazing volunteers. This week we are celebrating Garrett Causey, who is a kind hearted and devoted kid’s ministry volunteer. Thank you Garrett for all of love and support you give to our community through volunteering! Find out what Garrett had to say about serving by swiping left 🙏🏻 ~

As we enjoy the last few days of summer and watch the leaves slowly change from green to hues of burnt orange, yellow and red, what are some things you are grateful for? Changing seasons can be a difficult experience each year, yet we are reminded through nature how each season brings new colors and a chance for new life from the old of the previous season. Approaching fall and winter we are reminded of rest, a chance to slow down and the opportunity to give thanks for each experience God has walked with us through during the spring and summer. May you walk into the autumn season with hope, peace and gratitude 🙏🏻 ~
